The many divisions of elves that make up the world are common knowledge to most; but what is less well known, is that even among the distinguishable categories, Elves sometimes group themselves into infinitely more niche subgroups. Sun elves ( also called Gold Elves) are one such subcategory of High Elves, who’s knowledge and affinity for magic is tied to their fondness for the sun’s warmth. They almost feed on it, like a form of photosynthesis, empowering their magic with fire and radiance.
If you choose to specialise within the subgroup of High Elves, ignore the Subrace notes provided in the Player’s Handbook, and instead, gain the following traits:
Ability Score Increase:
Your Intelligence score increases by 1.
You can speak, read and write one extra language of your choice.
Heat of the Sun:
Your tolerance for and knowledge of thermal magic is so great that it pervades all of your spell-casting. While stood in direct sunlight, you may add your proficiency bonus to the damage of any fire, radiant or healing spell you cast.
Light of the Sun:
Your time spent acclimatising to sunlight has rendered your eyes less sensitive to the dark than most of your kin, but you can call upon the light of the sun to aid you in dark places. You lose an Elf’s Darkvision trait, but can cast the Light Cantrip at will.
When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Burning Hands (1st level) spell once per day. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the Scorching Ray (2nd level) spell once per day. Intelligence is your spell-casting ability for these spells.
